Resume: The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of true iron deficiency among school-age children living in one of the risk groups of Khorezm province, located in the biogeochemical zone of the Southern Priaralie. Material and Methods. Iron deficiency in 223 school-age children living in villages and cities of Khorezm region was studied by random sampling method. The results were obtained - the total incidence of iron deficiency cases amounted to 82.1% of all detected cases. There was a big difference between the rates of iron deficiency in rural and urban boys and girls - 69.6 and 93.9%, and in boys and girls - 68.8 and 94.2%. Conclusion. The frequency of iron deficiency in these children living in the South Island biogeochemical region is very high at 82.1%.
